Mary was on the verge of tears, thanks to a city hall bureaucrat who gave her a lecture on all the documents needed to get a marriage license in Greece. Apparently they needed to get stuff copied, translated, and stamped by another bureaucrat at the U.S. Embassy in Athens. There wasn't going to be a wedding on the beach today.

It had been a very long day. Now Mary was standing out on her balcony, admiring a view that was very different from what she was used to.
